An extensive 19th-century map of Puerto Rico made by Francisco Coello de Portugal y Quesada as part of his Atlas de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar, although this remained incomplete. Coello’s map of Puerto Rico stands out as one of the first scientifically produced, notable for including ten inset maps [Ensenada de Aguadilla; Contornos de Mayagüez; San Juan de Puerto Rico; Isla de Puerto Rico; Situación de la Isla de Puerto Rico; Contornos de San Juan de Puerto Rico; Puerto Guanica; Contornos de Isabel Segunda de Vieques; Contornos de Ponce; Islas Culebra y Vieques and the channels between them and Puerto Rico], accompanied by historical and statistical commentary.
