— Description —

Original antique view of Praça de São Bento in Porto, Portugal, drawn by George Vivian and published in London in 1839. The image shows São Bento square, located in the historic centre of Porto, with its 19th-century architecture. The buildings surrounding the square are visible, including neoclassical-style façades and urban elements of the period. In the background, the Clérigos Tower can be seen. The scene includes human figures and details of daily life in the Portuguese city during the Romantic period. George Vivian was a British artist who travelled through the Iberian Peninsula during the 1830s, documenting urban landscapes and monuments. His works were published in lithographic albums that offered a view of Spanish and Portuguese cities. This view is part of his series dedicated to Portugal, where he captured urban and architectural scenes. The work is a lithograph.
