Palacio del conde de Monterrey en Salamanca

Original antique view of the Palace of the Count of Monterrey in Salamanca, created by Genaro Pérez de Villaamil and published in Paris in 1842. The image shows the Renaissance palace located in the city of Salamanca, in the Castile and León region. The building is depicted with its four characteristic corner towers and its golden stone facade. The palace was built in the sixteenth century by order of the third Count of Monterrey, viceroy of Naples, and represents one of the most distinctive examples of Spanish noble architecture from the Renaissance. Genaro Pérez de Villaamil (1807-1854) was a Spanish painter and lithographer considered one of the initiators of pictorial Romanticism in Spain. He produced numerous views of Spanish monuments and landscapes during the 1840s, publishing several lithographic series in Paris that helped spread awareness of Spanish architectural heritage across Europe. The view is made using lithography, a printing technique that uses limestone and allows detailed reproduction of drawings.
