Casta Alvarez.

Original antique portrait of Casta Álvarez, a woman from Zaragoza who took part in the defence of the city during the Peninsular War. Armed with a bayonet attached to a pole as a lance, she encouraged the fighters and guided them when the enemy approached. Her actions at the battery of the Puerta de Sancho were noted. She was rewarded with a pension and a badge of honour. Drawn by Fernando Brambila and engraved by Juan Gálvez. Published in Cádiz in 1814. Brambila was a painter and draughtsman active in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, who participated in scientific expeditions and produced topographical views. Gálvez worked as an engraver during the same period, collaborating with various artists in the production of prints. Copper engraving.
