— Description —

Coloured map of the Southern Cone, including the Argentine Republic, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and the south of Peru, Bolivia and part of Brazil. Worth noting is the chromatic differentiation between Chile and Argentina with respect to the territory of Patagonia. This map was made by the renowned French cartographer F. A. Garnier and published in Paris in 1860 within his atlas “Atlas Sphéroïdal et Universel de Géographie.” The representation of Bolivia’s access to the sea is highlighted, a territory that would come to form part of Chile a few years later. The extent of the map covers from the south of Bolivia, Peru and Brazil to the Gulf of Penas to the west and Cabo Blanco to the east. In addition, it features a decorative frame. The title is located in the lower right part, within a cartouche. Among the most important cities represented stand out Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago de Chile and Villa Rica.
