This original map titled “Plan du Siège de Roses” was made in 1860 by Jacques Belmas and Ambroise Tardieu. This map is part of Belmas’s work titled Journaux des sièges faits ou soutenus par les Français dans la péninsule de 1807 à 1814 [Journals of the sieges carried out or sustained by the French in the Peninsula from 1807 to 1814]. The plan is a detailed representation of the military operations carried out during the siege in 1808 of the city of Roses in the region of Catalonia, Spain, during the Spanish War of Independence. The map, made by French engineers, is a work of topographical precision, showing the disposition of the French troops and their fortifications, as well as the key elements of the terrain that influenced the development of the siege. It represents one of the most significant interventions of the French forces under the command of Napoleon in the Iberian Peninsula.
