— Description —

18th-century plan of the city of Quito, published in Paris in 1770, with text in French and German. It extends from El Panecillo, on the far left, to the ‘Hards du Roi’ (present-day La Alameda park), and from the foot of Pichincha, at the top, to the present-day Plaza de San Marcos. In the upper right corner, the title —in French and German— is framed in a cartouche. On both sides is the legend (in French on the right and German on the left), which marks the main buildings of the old town: the Iglesia Mayor (Metropolitan Cathedral), the Palace of the Audiencia (Palacio de Carondelet) and the Church of the Society of Jesus.
