[Plan of Palma de Mallorca] Plan de Palma ville capitalle de l’Isle de Majorque

Scarce plan of the fortifications of Palma de Mallorca, published by Nicolas De Fer in 1715. Its publication coincides with the capture of the island by the Bourbon troops, at the end of the War of the Spanish Succession. Mallorca was in fact the last stronghold of the Austracist resistance that supported Charles VI of the Holy Roman Empire in his claims to occupy the throne of the Hispanic Monarchy. It capitulated upon the arrival of a Bourbon fleet, ten months after the fall of Barcelona into the power of Philip V of Spain. To make this plan, De Fer drew inspiration from a plan by François de Bezin, who had taken part in the Franco-Spanish expedition.
