New plan of the City of Rosario

Unrecorded plan of the city of Rosario, Argentina, published around 1915. Although it is undated, the map was published before 1919, when the publishing house “Casa Jacobo Peuser” became a “Sociedad Anónima”. It also details “la Nueva Fisherton”, a new district that was built after 1911. This plan reflects the enormous development that the city experienced at the beginning of the 20th century. Between 1885 and 1900, its population doubled thanks to a major immigration coming from Europe. By 1926, 47% of its inhabitants were of European origin. Among them were many Germans, such as Jacobo Peuser, born in the German state of Hesse, publisher of this map and founder of the publishing house that bore his name. Founded in 1867, his company was active for exactly 100 years, with up to six branches in the principal Argentine cities. Little is known of Juan Odebrecht, beyond the construction of several prestigious buildings in Córdoba, Argentina, in the 1920s. But he is probably linked to Emil Odebrecht, a German geodesic engineer and cartographer who emigrated to Brazil in 1856, and whose descendants founded the now infamous company Odebrecht.
