Plan de la Ensenada de Barragan, dans La Plata

Very scarce nautical chart of the Ensenada de Barragán, on the western and southern coast of the Río de la Plata (Argentina). Taken from a chart surveyed in 1830 by the French lieutenants Gueydon and Santi, and published by the French Navy in Paris in 1833. It shows a sparsely populated coast, with the “village of Barragán” (Village de Barragan) composed of five houses (the city of Ensenada as such does not appear). To the north-west of the village, one sees the fortress of Barragán. Further north, one observes Punta Lara, and the map continues to the surroundings of the mouth of the Pereyra channel, to the south of the district of Berazategui. Worth noting is that the geography of the island of Santiago appears much changed compared to its present-day reality. The chart contains various nautical indications, as well as the seal of the Dépôt Général de la Marine in the lower left part. The scale is located in the lower central part.
