Mexico and Guatemala, shewing the Position of the Mines

Original large-format map of Central America extending from Jalisco and Guanajuato in Mexico to Panama, including the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. It covers the present-day territories of Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. The map indicates the respective positions of the gold and silver mines, as well as the location of the stations where the Provincial Mining Councils held their sessions. This antique map with hand-applied colour delineation was made by James Wyld, a leading cartographer and map seller. In 1836 he inherited his father’s prosperous cartographic business located at Charing Cross and earned a reputation for the quality and diversity of the maps he produced. In 1839 he was elected a member of the Royal Geographical Society, and appointed Geographer to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Imprint: London. Published by James Wyld, Geographer to Her Majesty.
