This cartographic representation corresponds to a period of intense European commercial activity in Asia, when the Dutch, English, and French East India Companies were establishing trading posts and commercial routes in these territories. The Malay Peninsula constituted a strategic point for the spice trade between the Indian Ocean and the China Sea.
