— Description —

Original antique map of Spain, titled «Regni Hispaniae Post Omnium editiones», engraved by Abraham Ortelius and published in Amsterdam in 1570. This map depicts the entire Iberian Peninsula, including present-day Spain and Portugal, along with the Balearic Islands and part of North Africa. Ortelius shows the kingdoms of Castile, Aragon, Navarre, Granada, and Portugal as they existed in the sixteenth century, with their main cities and territorial divisions. The map is part of the atlas «Theatrum Orbis Terrarum», regarded as the first modern printed atlas, first published in Antwerp in 1570. This work marks a turning point in the history of cartography, bringing together standardized maps in uniform format for commercial distribution. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was a Flemish geographer and cartographer who transformed European map publishing. His «Theatrum» went through numerous editions and translations over more than forty years. Copper engraving.
