Original antique map of northeast India and Tibet, drawn by D. Aïtoff and G. Bagge and published in Paris in 1936. The map covers a large area of the Indian subcontinent, from the northern plains of India to the Tibetan plateau, including Nepal, Bhutan and parts of Burma. It shows the mountainous relief of the Himalayas, the network of major rivers and the cities of the region. Cartography of these territories in the 1930s reflected the geographical knowledge accumulated during the British colonial period in India, when extensive topographic surveys were carried out in the border area with Tibet. D. Aïtoff was a cartographer and collaborated on various French geographical publications in the early 20th century. G. Bagge also worked on European cartographic projects of the same period. The map is an engraving printed on paper.
