Granadae, Cordovae et Gienensis Regna

Original antique map of the kingdoms of Granada, Córdoba and Jaén, created by Thomás López and published by Homann in Nuremberg in 1782. The map covers southern Spain, showing the provinces of Granada, Córdoba and Jaén with their main cities, rivers and mountain ranges. Granada, Córdoba, Jaén, Málaga, Almería, the Guadalquivir River, Sierra Nevada and Sierra Morena are clearly identified, among other geographic features. This cartography reflects the territorial organization of eastern Andalusia and part of western Andalusia in the 18th century, when these territories retained their old division into kingdoms inherited from the Reconquista. Thomás López was royal geographer to the king of Spain and author of numerous maps of Spanish provinces, prepared in great detail from data collected through questionnaires sent to towns. The map was published by the Homann house of Nuremberg, one of the leading cartographic workshops in Europe in the 18th century. Copper engraving.
