Map of South America, from Venezuela and Colombia to Tierra del Fuego; on the right appears the western strip of Africa. Published in Munich in 1699 by Heinrich Scherer (1628-1704), a German cartographer and Jesuit whose Atlas Novus (1702-1710) combined cartography with religious symbolism and Jesuit missions. It depicts the relief with mountains and ranges, as well as rivers and lakes. The towns include Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santiago, Concepción, Asunción, Corrientes, Lima, Quito, Bahia, Cali and Panama. The scales are in the lower left corner; the title, in the upper left, is accompanied by an illustrated cartouche.
