— Description —

Decorative original illustrated map of South America, published in Paris by Alexandre Vuillemin (1812/1880), a French geographer and publisher, whose principal work was the Atlas de Geographie Commerciale et Industrielle, in which this map was included. It contains a plethora of information: 14 vignettes with information relating to the commercial and industrial activity of the various countries of the subcontinent, as well as a map of America that describes the routes of the steamships between this continent and Europe. A descriptive key gives an account of the physical division of the territory based on the principal river basins such as the Orinoco, Amazon, Paraná, Magdalena, etc.; the location of the principal cities and ports, and the location of mines of gold, silver, mercury, copper, diamonds, salt, etc. Printed with steel plate, hand-applied colours.
