— Description —

Good-sized antique map of European Russia which also covers the present-day territories of Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and parts of Moldova and Poland. From north to south it covers from the Arctic glacial ocean to the Black Sea. This original map was made by Eustache Hérisson, a French cartographer and engineer active in Paris around the beginning of the 19th century. He was a pupil of the notable hydrographer Rigobert Bonne and was a member of the Société Royale. Much of his work was republished posthumously by Basset, Brué and others.
