Large detailed military map of the siege of Gerona (1809) by Jacques-Vital Belmas. This map is part of Belmas’s work titled Journaux des sièges faits ou soutenus par les Français dans la péninsule de 1807 à 1814 [Journals of the sieges carried out or sustained by the French in the Peninsula from 1807 to 1814]. It represents the siege of Gerona during the Napoleonic wars, which lasted from May to December 1809, when the city finally surrendered. The map details the city of Gerona, its walls, the surrounding rural spaces, the exterior fortified structures and the River Ter. The relief is indicated by means of hachures, providing a precise visual representation of the topography of the area during the siege.
