— Description —

Map of Peru and Bolivia, with the borders highlighted in colour. It extends from the northern border between Peru and Ecuador to the southern border of Bolivia with Argentina and Chile. Published in London in 1859 by Blackie & Son, a publishing house founded in Glasgow in 1809. It presents a detailed topography of the relief and the urban network. The towns include Lima, Trujillo, Paita, Cusco, La Paz, Cochabamba, Potosí, Tupiza, Oruro, Tarija, Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Sucre, the last under its former name of ‘Chuquisaca’. Also shown are the Andes mountain range and Lake Titicaca. The title and scale are in the lower left corner. Bolivia retains access to the sea through the Atacama region, whose sovereignty it would lose to Chile at the end of the 19th century.
