Shaded plan of the coast of Callao (Peru), extending from Ancón to La Chira beach, in Chorrillos. Published in Paris in 1764 by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772), cartographer and hydrographer of the Dépôt des cartes et plans de la Marine. It includes nautical references with soundings in fathoms. From north to south it shows Ancón, the islands off Santa Rosa, the Carabayllo river, Lima and Callao, the latter walled: the depiction predates the 1746 earthquake that destroyed much of the city. Also shown are the island of San Lorenzo, El Frontón and the villages of La Magdalena, Surco, Miraflores and Chorrillos. The title and scale occupy the lower left corner, within a cartouche.
