Map of the southern part of Paraguay, between Itapirú and Humaitá, on the border with Argentina. Its boundaries are Humaitá to the north, the Paraguay river to the west, the Paraná river to the south and lake Royas to the east. Published in Paris in 1902 by Louis Scheider, from the survey by W. H. I. Green. The area was significant during the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870), for its fortresses and points of access to the Argentine province of Corrientes. The map details military elements: trenches, troop positions, cannon, scenes of combat and the location of telegraphs. Shading depicts the relief and the flooded or marshy areas.
