— Description —

Map of the province of Segovia, part of the Atlas Geográfico de España by Tomás López, initially published in 1804 but dated 1773. Segovia and its eponymous province border to the west with Valladolid and Ávila, to the north with Burgos, to the east with Soria and to the south with Guadalajara and Madrid. This detailed map is enriched with numerous elements, including the marking of cities, towns, villages and rivers, as well as the location of convents and places of production such as mills. Political and religious territorial subdivisions are also included. An inset map, at the same scale, highlights the district of Chinchón and its principal cities, between the provinces of Madrid and Toledo. The title of the map is framed in an ornate cartouche in the shape of a cornucopia with floral motifs, adorned with an engraving of an aqueduct and two lambs on the right side; the key and the scales are located on the left side. The relief is represented graphically, complementing the utility of this historical map.
