— Description —

Map of the south-west of France and Catalonia, including the passes through the Pyrenees, by Nicolas de Fer, published by G. Danet, dated 1709. The map represents the cross-border territory of Navarre, the kingdoms of Aragon and Catalonia in Spain, and regions such as Gascony, Armagnac and Upper Languedoc in France. The boundaries of the territorial subdivisions are meticulously hand-coloured. The relief is represented graphically, as well as some cities, fortifications or important places. The Canal des Deux Mers, intended to connect the Mediterranean with the Atlantic, reaches as far as Toulouse. The title and the scales appear in two separate cartouches.
