Original map published by the Heirs of Homann in 1740. It covers the Gulf of Mexico, the peninsulas of Yucatán and Florida, Central America and the Caribbean. It includes four other maps of the Isthmus of Panama, the port of St. Augustine, the port of Veracruz with the fort of San Juan de Ulúa and a plan of Santo Domingo. In the lower centre, a panoramic view of Mexico City. The Heirs of Homann was a German publishing firm that enjoyed great prestige in the 18th-century European map market. The founder was Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724), a German cartographer and engraver who held the title of Imperial Geographer of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. On his death, which occurred in 1724, the publishing business passed into the hands of his son, Christoph, who died six years later at the age of 27. The firm became the Homann Heirs Company until it closed in 1848.
