Medium-sized, colored map representing the northern territory of Chile. The map shows the Chilean territory lying between the Atacama desert and the Island of Chiloé. It was produced by J. A. C. Buchon and published in Paris in 1825. This map forms part of Buchon’s atlas titled Atlas Géographique, Statistique, Historique et Chronologique des Deux Amériques et des Îles Adjacentes ; traduit de l’atlas exécuté en Amérique d’après Lesage, avec de nombreuses corrections et augmentations. The frame surrounding it includes informative texts in French about the territory, addressing aspects such as the terrain, the relief, the climate, the principal cities, the form of government, trade and a summary of the historical context of the place. Important cities are also represented such as Copiapó, Santiago, Coquimbo, Concepción, Chillán, Villarrica and Valdivia. In addition, the use of shading to represent the Andes range stands out, including the location of various volcanoes throughout the map. Various gold and silver mines are marked. The map provides additional information in its margins. The title is located in the upper part of the sheet, in addition to the map’s own title and scale, which are located on its left side.
