— Description —

Original antique map of Asia made by Jacob Keizer in 1788 in Amsterdam. The map depicts the Asian continent in its entirety, from the Middle East to Japan, and from Siberia to the islands of South-East Asia. The Dutch title appears at the top: “Kaartje van Asia geteekent en uitgegeven tot Almelo, door C. Keizer”.

Jacob Keizer worked in Amsterdam during the second half of the 18th century, producing maps for educational and commercial use. This example forms part of the Dutch cartographic production of the period, when the Netherlands maintained trade relations with Asia through the Dutch East India Company.

The printing was carried out using copperplate engraving techniques and was hand-coloured, apparently in this same period. A compact format common in atlases and publications of the era.
