— Description —

Original antique map of India south of the River Ganges, engraved on copper by Pieter van der Aa and published in Leiden around 1710. The full title appears in Dutch in a decorated cartouche at the top: “Indien binnen de Ganges Vertoonende de Koninkryken van Golconda, Decan, Bisnaga en Grenzen van Mogol” (“India within the Ganges, showing the kingdoms of Golconda, Deccan, Bisnaga and the borders of the Mughal”). The area depicted covers the borders of the Mughal Empire, south of Gujarat and Bengal, and the western part of Burma. The graphic scale is given in Spanish and German miles. The map is adorned with a scene depicting a military siege, with soldiers and officers beside a prisoner. The engraving forms part of the cartographic production of Van der Aa, a publisher and cartographer active in the Netherlands between the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
