Original antique engraving depicting the costumes and customs of the Arabs and Jews of Cairo, Egypt, made by Henri Abraham Chatelain and published in Amsterdam around 1720. The print shows various figures dressed in the traditional clothing of both communities, accompanied by scenes of everyday entertainment. The engraving also includes a description of antiquities found in Egypt, offering a visual record of Cairo’s urban life in the first decades of the 18th century. Cairo was then the principal city of Egypt under Ottoman rule, a meeting point between Arab, Jewish and Turkish cultures. Henri Abraham Chatelain was a Dutch cartographer and publisher of French origin, active in Amsterdam during the first third of the 18th century. Copperplate engraving.
