Vista general de Córdoba

Original antique print of a general view of Córdoba, created by Alexandre de Laborde and published in Paris in 1806. The image shows a panoramic view of the Andalusian city from an elevated perspective, allowing observation of Córdoba’s urban layout in the early nineteenth century. The Guadalquivir River can be seen crossing the city, with the Roman bridge and the Mosque-Cathedral among the visible architectural elements. The foreground includes vegetation and human figures that provide scale to the composition. This view is part of Laborde’s journey through the Iberian Peninsula during the transition period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when Spain was undergoing significant political changes with the Napoleonic Wars. Alexandre de Laborde was a French antiquarian, archaeologist, and traveler who toured Spain between 1800 and 1806, documenting its monuments, cities, and landscapes. He published his observations in the work “Voyage pittoresque et historique de l’Espagne”, which brought together numerous views and maps of Spanish territory. Copper engraving.
