“These are my last words.” Salvador Allende, 11 September 1973

Rare Cuban poster in homage to Salvador Allende. The silkscreen print represents the bombing of the La Moneda Palace in Santiago de Chile on 11 September 1973. Beneath the image are the last paragraphs of Allende’s famous speech, broadcast three hours before the bombing by Radio Magallanes: “Workers of my Homeland! I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome this dark and bitter moment, where treason seeks to impose itself. Know that, sooner rather than later, the great avenues along which free men will pass to build a better society will open again. Long live Chile! Long live the People! Long live the Workers! These are my last words, and I am certain that my sacrifice will not be in vain. I am sure that, at least, it will be a moral lesson that will punish felony, cowardice and treason”. Very rare: only two examples are known (Victoria and Albert Museum and IISG).
