El General Guadalupe Victoria, President of the United Mexican States

Scarce original engraving of General Guadalupe Victoria, published in ‘Resumen Histórico de la Revolución de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos’, written by Carlos María Bustamante and published by Rudolph Ackermann in 1828. Ackermann (1764-1834) was a well-known bookseller and publisher born in Germany and established in London, where he also devoted himself to the manufacture of paper for artists. He published the magazine Repository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufactures, Fashions and Politics and a series of didactic manuals in Spanish that served as school textbooks in Spanish America. Guadalupe Victoria was the first president of Mexico, between 1825 and 1829. Two of his principal achievements were the creation of the public treasury and the abolition of slavery, which was declared on 16 September 1825.
