Cuban miscellany composed of three works from the end of the 19th century. 1/ The fiscal ruling issued by the Commander of the Army, Captain of the General Staff Corps, D. Juan Escribano García, in the proceedings instituted regarding the right that may pertain for admission into the civil order of beneficence to the collectives that took part in the extinguishing of the fire, the rescue of the injured and the extraction of the corpses that this disaster caused on 17 May 1890, in the city of Havana, at the hardware store of Messrs. Isasi and Company. Havana, Imprenta de M. R. y Comp. Obispo 18, 1891. 40 pp. Curious and scarce report on the fire at the Isasi hardware store, one of the most tragic in Cuban history (39 dead and more than 100 injured). The hardware store stored smuggled dynamite, but its owner did not mention this to the firefighters who had come to put out a fire, leading to this tragedy. 2/ Chronicle of the festivities held in honour of Their Royal Highnesses on the occasion of their stay on this island by Joaquín Mascuñana. Havana, Imp. de El Eco de los Voluntarios y Bomberos, Chacón Num. 7, 1893. Second edition. 168 pp. Illustrated with four double-page photoengravings (including one titled “The steamship Reina María Cristina entering port”, another “Departure of the Infantes from the ‘La Corona’ tobacco factory”) and numerous other photoengravings, among which four portraits of “His Excellency D. Manuel de Ciria y Vinent, Marquis of Cervera and of Villa Ytre”; “H.R.H. Don Antonio de Orleans, Infante of Spain”; “H.R.H. Doña Eulalia de Borbón, Infanta of Spain”; “José de Mesía y Gayoso de los Cobos, Duke of Tamanes”. It relates the official journey of the Infanta Eulalia, in 1893, to Cuba, on the occasion of the IV centenary of the discovery of America. It took her on a long tour to also visit Puerto Rico and the United States, where she was received by President Cleveland and visited the World’s Columbian Exposition in the name of the King of Spain—Alfonso XIII—and the Queen Regent María Cristina. From what she saw on the journey, the Infanta Eulalia foretold the imminent war and the loss of the island of Cuba in 1898. It is worth mentioning that, during five centuries of common history between America and Spain, only three persons of the Spanish royal family actually set foot in America, and all three were infantas: Carlota Joaquina de Borbón (1775-1830), and the sisters Isabel de Borbón (1851-1931) and Eulalia de Borbón (1864-1958), daughters of Isabel II. 3/ Report on the organisation and regime of the Presidio of Havana by its commander and first chief D.
