— Description —

Rare Admiralty chart of the South Sea, eastern coast of China, from Hong Kong to Jieyang and its port of Shantou. It presents numerous dates of publication and improvement: a copyright in November 1890, new editions in 1909 and 1912, small corrections in 1920, etc., up to its last update in 1948, which reflects the important shipping activity in the region and, therefore, the need for constantly updated and improved charts. The chart shows not only the details of the coast, with its soundings, sandbanks, shoals, lighthouses and beacons, but also some information about the inland territory, especially around Jieyang. It includes a view of the Hudong fort and two insets: the port of Shanwei (Guangdong), called Tai Sami; and the anchorage of Yeung Chau, or Goat Island, showing the eastern coast of Ting Kok.
