Large nautical chart detailing the Pacific coasts of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, extending from San Blas to Cabo Dulce in Costa Rica. This map was published in the Atlas of the western coasts of America on the Great Ocean (Neptune des côtes occidentales d’Amérique sur le Grand Océan), produced from the meticulous cartographic observations carried out aboard the Spanish exploration corvettes La Descubierta and La Atrevida in 1791. The routes of these expeditions, as well as the sea currents measured in that same year, are represented on the map. Published in 1823 by the Dépôt Général de la Marine under the direction of the Marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre, this cartographic document is a testimony of the Bourbon Enlightenment. It features five coastal profiles that offer a detailed view of Cabo Corrientes, the Colima Volcano, Coyuca, the Guatemala Volcano and the Viejo Volcano.
