Plan de Mequinenza

This topographic and military map of the siege of Mequinenza during the Napoleonic campaign in Spain was made by the French marshal Louis-Gabriel Suchet in 1828. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Ebro, Segre and Cinca, Mequinenza was a place of great strategic importance during the Spanish War of Independence. The map represents in detail the configuration of the terrain, fortifications, lines of attack and military emplacements of the capture of the stronghold by the French troops on 5 June 1810. The map is oriented to the north and shows the relief with particular detail by means of shading and the drawing of stylised contour lines. In addition, in the lower left corner, it includes an artistic panoramic view of the landscape and the castle of Mequinenza drawn from the right bank of the River Ebro.
The state of preservation is very good, despite faint oxidation stains.
