Provin Andalusiae vel Beatica cum confinijs

Original antique map of the Capuchin province of Andalusia, published in 1649 in Turin by Giovanni da Moncalieri, a Capuchin friar in the service of the House of Savoy. The map shows the territorial division of the Capuchin province of Andalusia during the 17th century.

The title appears at the bottom: “Provin Andalusiae vel Beatica cum confinijs” (Province of Andalusia or Baetica with its confines). The geographical representation includes the principal Andalusian cities where the Capuchin congregation had a presence: Córdoba, Jaén, Granada, Seville, Almería, Málaga, Cádiz (identified as Gades), Ronda and Badajoz on the western boundary. The map indicates the places where the Capuchins maintained establishments such as seminaries, convents, colleges and churches.

The Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts are clearly delineated. In the southern part one can partially observe the African coast, where the cities of Tangier and Ceuta are identified.
