— Description —

Rare plan of the port of Algiers, published in 1961 by the British Hydrographic Office, that is, one year before the independence of this former French colony, and corrected regularly until 1979. It is taken from an official French plan published in 1958 and corrected in 1960. It comprises an area extending from the district of El Annasser (Ruisseau) to the south to the Maillot / Debaghine hospital in Bab El Oued to the north, passing through the Plateau Saulière, the casbah and the great synagogue of Algiers (today the Farès mosque, called “of the Jews”). The port is, naturally, especially detailed, with its various quays, breakwaters and basins.
