El mapa representa un extenso territorio que abarca la región histórica de Siria y sus alrededores, con Antioquía como centro principal. Esta antigua circunscripción eclesiástica del cristianismo oriental se extendía por amplias zonas del Levante mediterráneo. El Patriarcado de Antioquía fue una de las sedes cristianas más antiguas, establecida en el siglo I, y mantuvo su influencia durante siglos como centro religioso y cultural en Oriente Próximo. Melchior Tavernier (1594-1665) fue un destacado grabador, editor e impresor francés, activo en París durante la primera mitad del siglo XVII. Melchior Tavernier (1594-1665) was a prominent French engraver, publisher, and printer active in Paris during the first half of the seventeenth century.
