Original antique view of Cartagena taken from the Santa Lucía suburb, lithographed by Nicolas-Marie-Joseph Chapuy and published in Paris in 1844. The image shows a perspective of the port city of Cartagena, on the Mediterranean coast of the Murcia region in Spain, captured from the Santa Lucía neighborhood, located on the outskirts of the city. In the foreground, buildings of the suburb and inhabitants of the period are visible, while in the background the port and urban center of Cartagena can be seen with its characteristic mid-19th century constructions. This view was created during the reign of Isabel II, a period of urban transformation in Spain’s main port cities. Nicolas-Marie-Joseph Chapuy was a French draughtsman and lithographer of the 19th century, known for his urban views and architectural landscapes of European and Mediterranean cities. The work is executed in lithography, a technique that allows drawings to be reproduced on limestone to obtain multiple printed copies.
