— Description —
Large hand-coloured map of the bay of Gibraltar, by Renau and Vezou, dated 1756. The map, together with a descriptive cartouche and additional commentary annotated on its surface, presents the bay of Gibraltar, including the city of the same name, and on the other side, Algeciras. The orientation of the map indicates that the north is to the right. The rhumb lines crisscross throughout the bay. The sounding measurements are also noted. The coasts are outlined with watercolour. The relief is represented by means of shading strokes and pictorially.
