— Description —

Coloured map of the La Plata region (Argentina), northern Chile and southern Bolivia. Published in Edinburgh in 1853 by A. & C. Black, Scottish publishers and cartographers known for Black’s Atlas. The administrative territories are distinguished by colour. Patagonia is set apart from the rest of Argentina and noted as inhabited by various indigenous tribes. The map extends from Uruguay and Paraguay, in the east, to the Pacific, and from north to south from Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Patagonia. The Andes and other ranges are shown by shading. The towns include Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Córdoba, San Luis, Corrientes, Asunción, Tarija, Santiago, Coquimbo and Concepción. Atacama appears as part of Bolivian territory, to which it gave access to the sea; it would pass to Chile at the end of the 19th century.
