[Chart Shanghai] China Approaches to Yangtze Kiang from the Chinese Government Charts to 1941. With additions to 1946.
Beautiful colored British Admiralty nautical map of the approaches to the Yangtze River, including part of the city of Shanghai, China. It depicts Shanghai to the sea and the island and bank of Chongming North to the Shengsi and Saddle Islands South. The map captures Shanghai during and after the Second Sino-Japanese War 1937 -1945, during which the city was heavily destroyed. The chart has different dates of publication and improvement: a copyright in June 1947, and small corrections in 1947, 1948 and 1949. The huge chart (98 x 66 cm + margins) shows the details of the coast, with its soundings, sandbanks, shoals, lighthouses, and beacons. It gives information on the inner territory, such as details on the urbanization of Shanghai, the walled cities of Caojing (Cholin), Fengxian (Fenghsien), Nanhui and Chuansha (where is now the Disney Resort), and Baoshan (Paoshan), the roads leaving Shanghai and the different villages they connect, etc. Full title: China East Coast.
